About Us

Get to Know our Spanish School in Ecuador

Vida Verde has a rich history as a Spanish School in Quito since 1999. Over the years, we have continuously provided excellence in Spanish Education. We are a proud member of the AECEE (the Ecuadorian Association of Spanish Teaching Centers) and are certified to prepare students for the DELE. More importantly however, we are close-knit and family orientated: we really want to get to know you and your story!

Vida Verde specializes in personalized instruction. The classrooms are the perfect size for individual and small class instruction (max of 6 students) and have ample natural lighting. Our teachers are all native speakers who have years of experience teaching the complexities of Spanish to foreigners. Behind the school there is a large patio, where teachers and students gather to enjoy coffee, the sun, and various group activities including songs and games. High-speed WiFi is available for all students and complimentary coffee and tea are served in the kitchen all day long.

Vida Verde Spanish School is located in the heart of La Floresta neighborhood. La Floresta is a middle class area and widely considered one of nicest and safest neighborhoods in all of Quito. It is located close to the world famous historic colonial center (“Old Town”). La Floresta offers many cultural opportunities. Students who want to be able to dance like a Latino can take dance lessons at the Aché Escuela de Baile which is located in the same building as Vida Verde! For movie and culture lovers, La Casa de Cultura shows free Latin American movies every day. A local cafe named Ocho y Medio is a cultural hub which shows movies and documentaries daily. At night, students can walk to local breweries to enjoy a drink with new friends. For a more in-depth view of Ecuadorian Culture, sign up for teacher led afternoon activities provided by the school.

After classes, students enjoy exploring the local shops and testing out the wide variety of restaurants. For $2.50-$3.50, students can enjoy traditional Almuerzos (lunches) served at the majority of Ecuadorian restaurants near the school. Almuerzos always start with a delicious Ecuadorian soup, then a choice from 2 or 3 “Platos Fuertes” (main dishes). For those students who love street food, the reknowned “Parque de las Tripas” (the Park of the Intestines) is located just a few blocks from the school. Visitors to the park can choose from a wide selection of delicious street food- not just intestines. Visit this link for more information about Ecuadorian food.

The “Green Life” starts at the very entrance of the school where students enjoy a beautiful garden. During the break from classes, students taste various Ecuadorian fruits that grow there. Vida Verde is also part of the growing green movement in Ecuador. We have built partnerships with environmental and conservation-based projects. Furthermore, we support the Rio Muchacho Organic Farm with 10% of the school’s profits.

Vida Verde offers a number of exciting options for students to both study Spanish and participate in responsible ecotourism at the same time. Through our Study in the Jungle and Study on the Coast programs, teachers accompany students and give classes “on location” as part of an integrated study/tourism adventure. We can also assist you in organizing internships within our green partnerships.
